Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the sequel to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and a prequel to the original Metal Gear. The game has a complex story with long cut-scene sequences, but there are fewer and they are shorter compared to earlier Metal Gear Solid titles. Most of the gameplay mechanics introduced in Ground Zeroes are carried over: it is still an action game and stealth oriented but replaces the linear corridor design from most earlier titles with large open world environments that offer the player unrestricted freedom for the approach. The world has now a real-time day and night cycle and various weather effects that influence enemy behaviour, visibility and sound. Sabotaging or destroying certain structures can also influence other parts of the map.

removeStory (but not entirely!!)

I have been looking forward to this game for a while, and playing it finally... it was amazing. They up'd the ante in terms of the gameplay on this one and the story. I did not expect the story to go this way, really. Had my jaw dropped upon playing the prologue. I'm so emotionally invested at this point with these characters because of how much I went through with them in Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes (building mother base only to have it destroyed in GZ was so heartbreaking), so I was kind of 50/50 when it came to developing MB again. The "tycoon" aspect of this game is definitely way better and I could easily spend hours in free roam or doing side-ops as I keep fulton'ing soldiers to assign to my departments. FOBs (that unlock around the 22nd mission) are really fun as well, but that's mostly on the online/server side.

I'm gonna yap about Kazuhira Miller for a bit: his character "development"(? should I call it that) was so drastic, and he has a reason, to which I sympathize with. I am a fangirl as any fangirl can be, and him looking like that while all angry all the time did keep me going. Had me excited every time there was a cutscene with him. I love that man please I want to protect him.

But that aside, this game is far from perfect though. Chapter 1 was amazing, the "ending" for it was great. The episodic approach they had in this game was cute. But when it came to Chapter 2, I was expecting way more but got... less. And I know that they had a reason (behind the scenes, development issues), but it is a bit sad knowing the potential this game has had they had the time and the freedom to actually do it.

The "extreme" or "subsistence" mission should have been side-ops missions instead of main-ops. The build up for the ending was somewhat nonexistent, I just feel like it threw me onto it so quickly after that MB incident. It sort of destroyed the immersion and pacing a little bit having to do those extreme missions just to get the next main mission.

The music in this game is amazing though, that I gotta say. From the original soundtrack of the game itself to the music they chose to play on the radio (I love 70s-80s music) and it fit so well. Especially the main song they chose to play on the radio.

One instance where the music got me was during the quarantine mission, where they hummed the Peace Walker theme song. Hurt like hell.

I hate Huey Emmerich with a passion.

Ocelot was cool. It's like he watched "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" once in 1966 and made Clint Eastwood his personality (in a good way).

Overall, it really felt like I was there, working with all of them in Mother Base, hence the connection I got with the soldiers I fulton'd and took care of. I might do an achievement run for this game soon. There's more to do still and I am hyped. Will look into MGO too!
