But that won't be easy. You'll have to use your spacesuit to absorb valuable energy for your search to gain the use of power items like the Ice Beam, Wave Beam, High Jump Boots and Varia. If you survive, it will be you and your acquired powers against the Mother Brain.

Let's Play #4 OVER!

My Let's Play is Played to Nintendo Switch Online NES

Seriously is my first time i Finishthis game.......there is some thing i miss is metroid, there is no solution to exit because i thought is using a bomb in morph ball, and second i got the last Gameover just to the end aginst Mother Brain =_= so i have no choice to use Rewind and i count 1 Gameover.

The good to know is i GOT varia SUit by the glitch Tricks and can be usefull, i go to Norfair after i got some item in Kaird Lair and after that the Game is SOo much easy then i expected. Oh and Ridley is a little ridiculous like boss fight compared to Super Metroid! X'D

I prepared Metroid: Zero Mission, the remake for you see the difference of Gameplay! Many more Modern also!

Gynno Over! 😎

(The Let's Play coming later in Youtube)

It's rough around the edges, but most first projects are. It is definitely not the best of the series, nor the best NES game. There are disjointed hitboxes, the final room is a mess of artificial difficulty, and healing yourself can take a while. (James Rolfe exaggerates how bad restoring energy and missiles is.) Make your own maps and plan a route to the end.

A Game That Aged Like a Banana in the Sun

Oh Metroid for the NES. Where do I even begin? This game is a relicβ€”an 8-bit exercise in frustration wrapped in a mapless void, with all the charm of a tax audit and none of the structure.

First off, playing Metroid is like being dropped into a sci-fi fever dream with zero context, zero direction, and zero patience for your nonsense. There's no map. Not a bad map. No map. You're expected to memorize endless lookalike corridors like some kind of pixelated savant. If you get lost (and you will), your only guide is trial, error, and deep existential dread.

The controls? Imagine trying to parallel park a shopping cart on ice. Samus moves with all the grace of a rusty pogo stick. The jumping feels like moon gravity met a midlife crisis. And don’t even get me started on the hit detectionβ€”it’s more hit-or-miss than your cousin’s SoundCloud mixtape.

Enemies respawn if you so much as blink. Health pickups are stingier than a grandma guarding her secret pie recipe. And the difficulty curve? It's not a curve, it's a cliff. Enjoy falling off it. Repeatedly.

And yet… just when you’re about to throw your controller through a time portal back to 1986, the music kicks in. That’s the only moment this game remembers it has a soul. The soundtrack is eerie, atmospheric, and way too good for this design dumpster fire. It's like if someone put a Grammy-winning orchestra in charge of the background music for a broken vending machine.

In summary: Metroid on NES is the gaming equivalent of wandering aimlessly in a haunted space Ikeaβ€”except all the doors are locked, the signs are in Klingon, and every enemy has a personal vendetta against you. But hey… that music slaps.

1.5 out of 5 Energy Tanks. One star for the music. Half a star because I’m feeling generous.

This was my first time ever completing an NES game and man it was a bit of a doozy. Not of such a huge map with so many rooms looking almost exactly the same, encouraging you to draw your own map to navigate the game. I get that this was probably really cool for a lot of people at the time, but as an experience for the first time in 2024 it just wasn't for me. Great game for people that like these kinds of games and iconic for the time, but I'm still on the hunt for an NES game I truly love.

This was the Beginning of side scrolling shooters for me. i remember at 5 yr old my mother rocking this game. she knew the codes made a whole journal of them as she played. It led me to play almost every Metroid Since. and most of them are worth the adventure. enjoy

This is a strange one because, if I played it on original hardware, it'd be a 6. But because I played it on Switch, it's more of a 7.5. I'll stick it as 7. What holds up is the exploration is pretty nice. Despite the samey look of half of the screens, I was able to get a roughly solid mental map and allowed myself to traverse and beat the game in one session. Exploring was fun, dodging or killing enemies was fun, solving rooms was fun.

Using the Switch, with rewind, definitely aids this game. It's easy to get stuck if you try to explore some out of sequence places, and dying without rewind ruins the gameplay flow and the mental map. Even still, managing that dampered the gameplay slightly. But it's better than resetting and getting lost.

It was groundbreaking for it's time but as the franchise matured - so many improvements have been made. Love Zero Mission's "reboot"
