Wow, what an awesome experience. I played this directly following my first playthrough of FF7 OG and was really able to appreciate how much love and depth was put into the original world of Midgar. The original game is fleshed out in every way, be that individual characters, areas, side quests, you name it. Everything is expanded upon and none of it feels pointless or underwhelming. From the music to the graphics, and even Yuffie's story and the Fort Condor minigame in INTERmission, everything is just oozing with love. My only gripe would be that the whole experience was a bit linear but the Midgar section of OG FF7 was as well so it makes sense. All in all a fantastic remake!

Reviewing a game like this 20+ years after its launch can be a bit tricky.. Obviously certain things in regards to the visuals/gameplay have not necessarily aged the best even if the Soundtrack and Story have held up amazingly. For that reason I am not gonna go too in depth with the review as it feels wrong to complain about the shortcomings of 1997 through the eyes of 2024.. All I can say is that despite some of the smudgy graphics and clunky gameplay it did still manage to hold up all these years later and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with FF7 OG. I am very stoked to have finally been able to experience what many people consider their “favorite game of all time” and am looking forward to Remake/Rebirth with very high hopes!
