PRO: if the original made me fall in love, the remake made me propose and want to have kids
CON: 'Chapter 6: Light the Way' is not only boring and slow, but adds basically nothing to the narrative
disclaimer: it was a Hard Mode only run
A modern reimagining of the game that started my lifelong love affair with the medium. A deeper dive into a cast of characters, story and world that never ceases to be worthy of the player's investment. As well as melding turn-based and action combat into an intuitive, approachable form for the modern player.
Don't you hear the planet crying out in pain?!
ITS NICE BUT THE OLD ONE ON PS1 IS MUCH BETTER TBH
Having played the original, I really wasn't sure what to expect from this game. I honestly entered it with a very cold and bitter heart due to how hard Square shills this game. I was very burnt out from the "advent dirge of crisis core fortnite dream drop distance" treatment that FF7 has been getting while other more deserving Final Fantasy games see nothing. But I decided to put my feelings aside and give this game a shot, my opinion? Is this game a bad bastardized retelling of the original...Yes... Did I have lots of fun? ALSO YES! This game, while it has its flaws in its story, corny dialogue, and repetitive combat is VISUALLY AND MUSCIALLY STUNNING. The music and visual are MORE THAN ENOUGH to grab the "not so great" parts of this game and lift it on its shoulders to run with it and cross the finish line into "worth it to play" territory! I think that this game CAN be used as some players first entry into Final Fantasy, but sadly they will miss out on so much of the mood and great story telling the original does. I DO BELIEVE that anyone who has played the original SHOULD play this because to me, while this game does NOT feel like a Final Fantasy game, it does feel like a well done fan made final fantasy walking simulator with battles in between. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
it's a small part of a much larger story but it does what it needs too to change enough to keep even the most veteran FF7 fans guessing.
