This game proves the concept that "if you can retaliate, there's no such thing as fear". It's a beautiful game aesthetic speaking, the colors, lights, architecture of tokyo is simply amazing. The only downpoint it's the fact that story, narrative and rhythm end up focusing more on the action aspect instead the horror one. This happened with the leaving of Ikumi Nakamura as the creative director due Bethesda's overwhelming pressure.😔

Wasn't sure what to expect going into this game because it seemed to drastically change from its initial reveal up to the final version. I thought it would have a lot more spooks but it ended up being very action heavy with bits of horror scarcely spread out during the entire playthrough. The gameplay is actually very fun and I loved how expressive all the hand movements were. It gives the game a lot of momentum and dynamic action that you don't normally see from first-person perspective games. The visual of the hands is a big factor to why I played the game the whole way through. I would have otherwise not been interested enough to finish the game without them. It's just incredibly satisfying to do and look at. The gameplay was also very surprisingly "Ubisoft-esque" in the sense that you would get the open world with markers of places to go and things to do. This was actually a plus for me since I've grown out playing these types out of games. As for the story... there is very little explanation given to you from the start and it doesn't spend time really elaborating more than it needs to. It essentially does the bare minimum to keep you engaged and to understand the reasoning for certain character's actions. In that sense it's actually more realistic in its approach. You don't get massive flashbacks that reveal somebody's entire life story to you or reveal information that you would otherwise never have realistically known about someone. It gives you exactly what you need. That being said, I do wish there was a bit more given to you. The game ends with several questions being unanswered but, again, this fits with the way the story is presented. For example, you'll never know how the character of Ed turns out because it just isn't relevant to what your objective is, despite him being a major player in helping you out during the journey. I was pleasantly surprised by the end and think it deserves more recognition. It's very fun and definitely very unique.

Went in thinking it was like a proper horror game ready to soil my britches only to have my expectations be met with the reality of the gameplay. The scariest part was the weird smoothing with the camera.

The main game was great, the story had me near tears at the end, the DLC was pretty fun. I still need to go back one day and get the 100% achievement completion.
