Final Fantasy 4 for the PS1 was challenging; which is honestly a good thing! This one put its efforts more into the story than into the customizability of the characters; so take that as you will. For me, I enjoy an RPG and grade it more on how the characters develop and how the story arc goes; and this one is honestly the best of the series thus far! (1-3). Had to grind quite a bit though to beat some of the bosses because even understanding the mechanics would only get you so far. My little complaint for this one is that one of your characters (Edge) is surprisingly pretty weak and ends up dying a lot; no matter how much you train him up. The inventory system is good and there's a big chocobo that holds your stuff just in case you need it. I feel like this is much less of an issue than the previous final fantasy because you are given a set of characters that already have their jobs assigned; meaning you aren't trying multiple jobs on several different people at a given time. (which increases the need for a huge inventory load) Music is good and the characters are quirky which adds charm for the series. I wont spoil the story so that you may too experience this one day. The Sprites have gained a bit more life as well. Each final fantasy improves upon itself for the most part there. Would I play this again? Maybe someday. It would be for story or a nostalgic reason if so.

3rd installment to the series. Right away Since this game was not released for America for a good long while, we had to wait until the DS version remake came out to experience the gameplay and story. When playing these games in order, it's a little jarring to go from a 2D sprite to a 3D one and back to 2D again. But I will say though, the graphics stand good even to this day. The cute chibi versions of the characters and environments will last much longer than if set in a more realistic sense. The overall story was a bit more fleshed out than say final fantasy 1, but I'd put it about equal to FF2. Each Character was given a little more thought as well. We can see that Final Fantasy 2 was not well received since most of the previous mechanics from FF1 came back, such as the MP slots and leveling system has returned. Thankfully the items do stack in this one making inventory management easier, and we aren't buying consumables one at a time unless you want to. I do realize in comparison to the pixel remaster (which is more closely based to the original Japanese version) that the characters were not as fleshed out, (you pick 4 classes and name your characters versus having 4 defined characters with some added story) and the overall playthrough of the game is very different. (although it be the same concept) The Steam PC version had some bugs when playing, not too bad though, but I really wish that the PC ports for final fantasy were just better. The issue that I came across was a flickering green screen effect every time I started up the game. To fix this, I had to go into Nvidia control and set my frame rate cap to 60 fps. The Overall main gimmick of the game was to introduce you to a variety of new classes! This was fun indeed. You can easily grind out and play around with the new classes to see what you liked for hours. The issue I saw with that is again inventory with all the different jobs you may be bouncing around and trying, however; they've added the big fat Chocobo to handle extra items to alleviate that thankfully. I think this is the first game of the series that I've ran into doing optional side quests. You can get some very cool items or even a new job if you invest your time into them! I wasn't able to fully utilize this on my first playthrough unfortunately, but that gives the game some needed replay value to go back and try out (Onion Knight). Music score was pretty good, as to be expected from Nobou Uematsu. I love how the music evolves throughout the series, and how much he can convey in such limitations of the hardware. The Bosses were pretty challenging this time around I felt. Makes you feel like you're fighting these epic entities as you go through.. especially at the end.
