The SaGa franchise has interested me for a long time but when I was younger I was so used to Final Fantasy-esque mechanics that I was thrown off by the unique SaGa system to gaining stats and learning new abilities.
SaGa Frontier is the perfect SaGa game as a first time player to the franchise, especially if you choose a route that gives you a little LESS freedom at the start. The reason for this is that SaGa Frontier is an open world RPG, you may have some immediate goal, but there are lots of things to discover by talking with NPCs and checking locations (even those that you don't need to go to). I appreciate the game just letting you miss things if you choose not to explore. Some people might not have that same appreciation and that is where I feel SaGa games have their niche audience.
