In Pikmin 2, Captain Olimar returns to the planet he was originally stranded on, to collect trinkets for his failing company to sell back at home. The game features a 2-character mechanic, which allows players to switch between two spacemen while collecting items. Two-player co-op challenge missions and a competitive mode are also available.

Everyone loves Pikmin 2 but I just can’t seem to understand why. The caves represent the polar opposite of things I like about Pikmin. The tiles are semi-randomly assembled, which ostensibly should make them replayable, but in practice makes them mostly interchangeable. Not to mention the treasures are also placed semi-randomly, so the gameplay experience doesn’t seem intentional. You’ll have these setpieces that are clearly designed to have treasure on them, but the treasure won’t spawn on them, so there’s no actual reason to engage with them at all. Don’t get me started on navigating a series of cramped hallways with a group of 100 Pikmin.
It is significantly harder than other Pikmin games, but not in a way that feels satisfying. It is technically true that a bomb dropping from the sky is difficult to play around, but it isn’t a satisfying experience to overcome that challenge. Purple Pikmin trivialize any of the traditionally challenging Pikmin enemies, and the odd boss that remains challenging has to up the ante in ways that I view as unfun to compensate. Trying to beat it in the Pikmin marathon made me actively hate the game in ways that did not happen with any of the other games.
Still, it is a Pikmin game, so it’s pretty good.

Possibly the greatest true pikmin experience. The devs hate your pikmin more than you'll ever know.
I really enjoyed this a lot! It's kind of just more of the same from Pikmin, but the new Pikmin types and ramped up difficulty were welcome additions. I also liked the underground sections -- they certainly got a bit excessively long, but it was nice to see the design team able to flex their muscles with some more elaborate puzzles without having to worry about the timer shortening or cheapening them.
Not a fan of either of my secondary characters or the outrageous capitalism Olimar is forced to toil under, but ignoring who the characters are allowed me to enjoy splitting the squads and doing twice as much exploring at once.

total pikmin extinction

Could never finish the last level but loved this game nonetheless
I love Bread bug... Dear lord the design, caves, new pikmin, treasures, new bosses. Everything here builds off of Pikmin 1 perfectly and somehow looks greater. To say this impressed me and still does today is an understatement. I love all the enemys like Water Wrath and Snarget. The lord you get form the piklopedia and mail is so great from letting you connect and get to know the characters. This game will always be in the front of my mind, forever and always.
