The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is the sixth installment in the main Trails series, serving as the beginning to the Erebonia arc. The game follows Rean Schwarzer and his fellow students of "Class VII" at Thors Military Academy, a newly formed class at the academy which is the only one not segregated by social class, composing of both Erebonian nobility and commoners. The basic gameplay is nearly identical to the previous entries with a few changes. The biggest change to the battle system and also counting as a brand new feature is the "Tactical Link System". The "Tactical Link" allow players follow up with three different kinds of link attacks, dealing additional damage and providing various other benefits. "Tactical Link" becomes a more useful asset to the player as the story progress and characters level up their "Link Levels" with other characters. As the link levels increase, you will obtain new link abilities such as healing the link partner or increase the CP gain of the partner.

An amazing game and a great entryway into the Trails series! Cold Steel features a world that feels alive, that lives before, during, and well beyond your adventures with Rean while still making it feel like every action I did mattered. The combat system was a really interesting turn-based and it felt like each character could get their own specializations while still being able to be wildly customizable.

Solid JRPG, i like the previous five games a lot more. Definitely felt like a stepping stone to the next few games. A bit repetitive in many areas, but still has a lot of heart.
This game is about what you'd expect from a school based JRPG. I'm not crazy about the setting, but it kicks off a series that gets better with time. And if you like games like Fire Emblem: Three Houses or Fire Emblem: Engage then you already know what you're getting here.
loved it
A great place to start in the series. another slow burn with a big payoff
The game that made me a fan of the series.
Seriously underrated JRPG that pulls together so many good mechanics, tropes and attributes from the classics and honestly pioneers a unique game experience and journey for the hardcore JRPG and anime fanatics 😍
This has easily become one of my top JRPG recommendations
