My intuition is that this stems from Pokemon Go, but I am just not sold on the mechanics of a Pokemon game that emphasizes catching massive amounts of Pokemon instead of forming bonds with a small subset of Pokemon you catch. They want you to catch 30 of the same guy and then grind 29 of them into paste to the strongest one can get stronger. This is completely antithetical to every theme Pokemon has ever had, and it's baffling that the series has started to lean in that direction.
I also enjoyed about 0 of the actual catching mechanics, so there's also that.

Have NOT completed this game, but plan to sometime. So far, pretty enjoyable, and hear it's a good time, especially for people not as into the standard formula for Pokemon (me). But will update when game is completed.

Second playthrough done! Didn't do everything, but beat Volo and caught Giratina. Wanted to have a second go through with Illya, since she missed it before. It's her first time going through a Pokemon game from start to finish! Definitely different from the mainline series, I kinda forgot how the turn-based system isn't exactly the same. Harder to just overtrain one pokemon to stomp through everything.

I beat the main storyline in this game. I love a good Pokemon game for nostalgia. My biggest complaint on this game is how slow the very beginning is. I felt like I played for 2 hours before I got to really start playing the game. Some cutscenes also see to drag on.
If you love Pokemon, this will be a game for you as long as you can get past the very slow opening to the story.
