This game is tremendously underappreciated. The setting is unique among science fiction RPGs, and Sega once again damaged a great project with a horribly short development period. This game explored marriage and generations of heroes before Dragon Quest V, and in more detail. The plot's development changes as the player moves through three generations, with four endings and four final parties open to the player. Gameplay was radically improved over the previous games. The early stages of the game could be a little slow, but the difficulty balance and effort needed to power up were far more user-friendly. The team was new, but capable, and clearly learned a few things by analyzing their contemporaries. Furthermore, they told a story that maintained some direct connections to the events of Phantasy Star II. While this game is a tangent in the overall lore of Phantasy Star, it is still an important part of the series. Please give this game a chance. (:
