The fact that the first playthrough is considered sort of a long tutorial tells you everything about this game. On top of that, the number of mechanics both in combat and items is unnecessarily complex for the sake of it. Only play this game if you want to go to NG+4 or something like that and like to fight the same enemies over and over, otherwise don't bother.

Was hit by a brick wall of a boss and have yet to return to finish this game fully and maybe even do a NG+ replay.

The Nioh 3 demo came out and it finally triggered me into playing the second game. It's been nearly a decade since my playthrough of the original (not counting the DLC that I went back to after multiple years).

This game is every bit as fun as I remember the original being although it doesn't seem to be quite as difficult in the "one touch and you die" sense. Granted, I played every single mission with help either from other players or the AI companions which greatly sped-up and enhanced my experience the whole way through. I was a very casual player of the original and never got too in-depth with all the mechanics of the game, but I did not notice a couple differences this time around. I do think Living Weapon was cooler in the first game than Yokai form in this one. While it functions the same on a surface-level it just didn't feel as good to do. It's apparently not as good in general according to those who helped me during the playthrough. The new Yokai abilities though are a great new addition along with the new counter mechanic against "red" attacks. They felt satisying to pull off (in the Brute Form at least).

Aside from that, the gameplay is essentially "more Nioh" and that's exactly what I wanted.

When it comes to the story though... the game does not do a good job presenting it to the players in a cohesive manner. By the halfway point I lost track of what was actually happening. It's been a while, but I think this was done much better in the first game. After reading through what actually happens in this entry I do think it's actually better on paper, especially with the added DLC, but it's a shame that the way it's give to you is so.... bad?

The DLC was great, and two missions in particular involving duels with specific "guest" characters had me very excited.

Very much still a fan of this series and can't wait for the third entry after playing the Alpha demo for it.

This game is alot of fun, is actually somewhat tougher than most Souls likes however I hate that later in the game progression is tied to Gear and Armor grinding rather than just skill basing it like normal. It starts to really take forever to get better and good enough gear to actually help.

I find the DLCs too obnoxiously hard, but fusing Dark Souls with Diablo-style itemization is really fun

I'm not the biggest fan of soulslikes, but I do find myself enjoying many of the non-From Software ones out there. Nioh 2 might be my favorite of the lot! I originally started playing this with friends as part of the Company Boyz channel, but got completely immersed in the gameplay, combat, and looting. We never officially finished Nioh 2 on stream, but I had to see it through myself. By the time I was done, I was well into Dream of the Wise, the second highest difficulty (or NG+++) and sunk over 250 hours into the game! The game is brutal, but very enjoyable! I just want Team Ninja to make Nioh 3 so I can get hooked on it all over again.

Nioh 2 is a fun game that's that falls in the soulslike category. It's awesome for playing with friends because the co-op mode is top-notch. The setting is cool and the story is pretty decent as you go through the game. But, I gotta be honest, it starts to feel a bit repetitive after a while. By the time you're two-thirds of the way through, you're not really seeing anything new in terms of locations or monsters. It gets kinda stale towards the end.

Overall, it's a good game and definitely worth playing if you have a buddy to team up with. But if you're flying solo, there might be some other souls games out there that would be a better fit for you.
