REPLAY: The 2013 'reboot' of Devil May Cry, has all the manic energy of a SNL parody sketch, with enough atrocious dialogue to keep you cringing your way through every single scene. But if you ignore the near constant furrowing of your brow, and shaking of your head, the combat and soundtrack offer some much needed solace from the horror that is the narrative.

THIS GAME WAS SOOOO FUN TO PLAY!!!!!!! The combat was extremely fluid and Dante felt really great to play as!!! The color palette and level designs were very colorful and great to look at and get immersed in! The OST was SO GOOD that I didn't mind dying at times JUST to get to listen to that amazing OST again! The last two boss fights, the first was alright but that last one was pretty good albeit a BIT predictable! The DLC left a lot to be desired and Vergil (to me) didn't feel like the menacing boss that we faced when we got to play as him! Still fun but not on the same level as the base game! Overall, a HELLUVA game and one that EVERYONE should play!!! PLEASE play DMC!!! This game made me a die hard DMC fan now the way TR4 and Angel of Darkness made me a die hard Tomb Raider fan!!

Achievement-trophy wise, this list wasn’t hard. As with all other DMC games, the game requires multiple playthroughs as you unlock the harder difficulties. The hardest achievement is getting a SSS rank on 10 different missions which requires knowledge of maximizing the battle point system.

DmC Devil May Cry completely reimagines the story of the Devil May Cry series. It riffs off of some pre-existing ideas - such as most of the lore behind Sparda, Mundus, Dante, and Vergil, but is largely it's own thing. This is absolutely to it's detriment. DmC Devil May Cry boldly dares to ask "what if Devil May Cry was written like a young adult dystopian novel". The answer, quite clearly, is that it would be terrible. DmC is overly edgy, overly serious, and has grating dialogue. It's often gross for the sake of being gross, and is absolutely not a direction Devil May Cry needed to take. The thing is though, Devil May Cry 5 now exists. In a post Devil May Cry 5 world, where the series has returned to the story of the previous games, DmC is simply just an inoffensive "what if" side game, with a terrible story, but standout combat. DmC has a lot of interesting ideas gameplay-wise. My favourite part of Devil May Cry 4 was Nero's Buster, and Dante gains access to a grappling hook that functions quire similarly. Dante has a large variety of weapons and abilities at his disposal in DmC, and he's probably the most versatile he's ever been. There's a large variety of options available to you at any moment. In DmC: Devil May Cry, Dante has the ability to swap to "Angel" or "Demon" modes, depending on which trigger you hold down. In Angel mode, Dante has access to quicker weapons, better suited for crowd control, and in Demon mode Dante gets slow, hard hitting weapons. You can cycle through available Angel mode weapons using left on the D-pad, and you can cycle through Demon weapons using right on the D-pad. This all works together to create a pretty elegant weapon swapping solution. It allows Dante to hold more than 2 weapons at a time without making swapping through these slightly cumbersome. No longer do you have to swap past a weapon you don't want, like in Devil May Cry 4, but you can just swap to the exact weapon you want at any time by using a combination of the trigger buttons and the D-pad. Dante's Demon and Angel weapons and abilities are used for more than just combat. Dante's platforming and movement is much better than previous games in DmC, in my opinion. He's able to glide out of a jump, grapple to points, and pull on points, all using Demon or Angel abilities. There's quite a lot of levels that really heavily feature platforming, and as simplistic as this platforming ends up being, I found this to be a pretty enhoyable part of the game. It often essentially boils down to QTEs - grapple to this point, then jump, then grab this point - without requiring much actual use of the left stick, but it's satisfying to pull off at times. Dante's also able to use this grappling as well as his Demon and Angel weapons to uncover hidden areas. There's a lot of secret stages in DmC, and accessing these requires finding both a door and a key. These will often be hidden off the main path, and will require some platforming, or puzzle solving. Everything that isn't combat in this game is incredibly light - the puzzles are never really complex, and the platforming is never really difficult - but I think that's all that's really needed for a game like this. If it were much longer this might be more of an actual complaint, but DmC is only around 10 hours long. At times, I think Dante's kit is kind of overwhelming. This is probably just a skill issue on my part, but I found it really difficult to keep a consistently high style rank. I was rewarded high ranks often for hitting multiple enemies at once with the Angel crowd control weapons, but found myself getting quite low ranks for most other things that I feel the other Devil May Cry games would have given at least an A rank foe. I don't think I can feasibly do all of the stuff the game is wanting of me for the higher ranks. Again though, this may just be on me. I haven't read a full comprehensive list of changes, but it really seems like the Definitive Edition version of this game improved it significantly. I came out of DmC: Devil May Cry with virtually no gameplay gripes, apart from the fact that a lot of the bosses have a lot of essentially disguised QTEs, and that the bosses were generally not all that interesting. It's unfortunate that this version isn't available without modding on PC. As it stands now, DmC is just an interesting departure from the usual Devil May Cry. If you can put up with genuinely terrible storytelling, and kind of boring, uninspired, and cliché moments, I think it's worth playing. If you can't put up with Dante, Vergil, or any of the other characters being exactly as you know them though, you should probably avoid DmC. I enjoyed the combat a lot - more than most of the games in the series - but the focus isn't on combat all of the time. It's not to the point that I'd recommend everyone sit through all the bad story to experience it.

First off, the character design is kinda awful. The writing is good in some places, but kinda juvenile / too edgy in some other cases. Gameplay wise, I like the idea of easily changing weapon types, however, the button layout can sometimes be very hard to manage, leading to occasional finger cramps. Platforming wise, it's way better than its predecessors.

Still some combat issues and so-so platforming. If it was called ANYTHING else, it would be better.
