Deceivingly difficult! While this game may be labeled as K-A, don't let it fool you into thinking that this cute platformer is easy. While the boss fights are mostly pushovers, the levels in-between are difficult but fun to get through! The PS1 version does use tank controls but it is no way hindering the gameplay. The camera can be angled to 3 different angles that each help in different scenarios! The OST is very fun and memorable! Overall, replaying and finally finishing the og before the Remaster for this game was enjoyable! Def try the Remasters when they release!

Nice platformer with some cool music, but the controls are terribly dated.

Yet another "lost gem" of the PS1 era that I had never had the chance to play (other than one level on a multi-game demo disc that I had as a kid. I generally enjoy 3D platformers, especially those from this era, so I had hopes for the game going in. The Good: The soundtrack, while certainly not worthy of any awards or accolades, does a good job of keeping you tapping your foot / bobbing your head as you play. During the stream, it was commented on multiple times and was a high point of an admittedly low hill. The Bad: Pretty much everything else. The game was released one year AFTER Crash Bandicoot, one year BEFORE Spyro, and did pretty much everything wrong that they got right. The player begins with the ability to jump, tail spin, and ground pound, and you never learn any new abilities...meaning the entire game consists of jumping across platforms which are: 1) stationary (or moving), 2) large (or small), and 3) Permanent, crumbly, or time-limited With the exception of breaking boxes and defeating a single boss (that I saw), the ground pound served no purpose, and because it was activated by pressing "jump" in midair, I often found myself ground-pounding lava when trying to recover from a jump which landed me on a slick piece of flooring near a pit. tail spins are used to kill enemies, which have incredibly inconsistent hit boxes and little (if any) "wind-up" before launching projectiles at you. The Ugly: The controls are the absolute bane of this game. In all seriousness, I think Mort the Chicken had better controls than this game if only because you could ACTUALLY CONTROL THE CAMERA! This game utilizes a Resident Evil style camera, where you press Up to move forward, Down to back up (slowly) and Left or Right to pivot your character, and the camera CANNOT be manually adjusted, other than by pressing Circle to swivel your character 180 degrees and dragging the camera along. The number of times I was struggling with a camera that was hung on terrain, requiring me to back away from a section of a stage and approach it again from a different angle was depressing, and as the game went on, it seemed that the devs used this janky camera more and more intentionally to "challenge" the player in the absence of any kind of level or enemy variety. All in all, this felt less like a game and more like an Alpha (or possibly a VERY early Beta) of what a PS1 3D platformer could be. I have heard there is a remaster coming in the future, and I MAY give it a look, but I cannot recommend this game to anyone. If you think I've forgotten to talk about the story, guess what? So did the devs. There is zero dialogue or text in this game to advance the narrative. AT ALL. Seriously, play Mort the Chicken instead...it's just as broken, but takes a third of the time to beat and is at least amusing in how it embraces its own ridiculousness.
