Alright. The Reaper Says: This is a game similar to games like Diablo or TitanQuest: an Isometric RPG. I'm not going to lie to you, I was fairly excited to play this once I got Atelier Sophie 2 off my list. Unfortunately, after 21 hours of play and a game crash (not catastrophic, but it was enough for me to say "That's enough, time for something new".) I decided to shelve it for the time being. All in all, it's not a bad game: The cast is varied, you don't play as a single person per se, and I swear the narrator sounds like a mix between Pierce Brosnan and Sir Christopher Lee. He could easily be mistaken for the late Tony Jay, but it's none of them. The GOOD: The game starts you out as "The Devourer", a demon whose innate abilities set them apart from other demons: while normal demons can only have one soul, The Devourer can consume and use multiple souls as puppets, AKA your party. Combat is simplistic enough to be easy to learn. There are a varied number of puppets to use and collect, each with their own story to tell. The game also boasts a number of puzzles which reward you with loot; I have mentioned to myself that this is what would happen if Diablo and Legend of Zelda had a child. The BAD: This game isn't perfect, not by a long shot. The biggest issue I had with the game was with its pacing. It's slow. Really slow. Just like the puppet's walk speed (without bonuses to Move Speed %). On the other hand, the Devourer is decently fast but you have the chance to run into creatures in the Shadow Realm. So pick your poison. The one other thing that I will gripe about with this game, unsurprisingly, are the puzzles! There are times that I hate trying to go for 100%; it makes the puzzles worse, especially when you're trying to do them in combat! The REDEMPTION: The good thing for me is that in this case, I don't have to use a controller to play this: like most RPGs of this kind, you can play this with KB+M, which kind of helps because of my medical condition (I have a hard time keeping my left thumb on the left stick.) Another good point about this game is its replayability. I won't spoil the reason why, but in order to get the full experience you need to play through three times. Final Statistics: Date Started: 03/18/23 Date Shelved: 04/04/23 Total Playtime: 25 Hours Overall Rating: 4/5 Scythes.
