Quantum Break is an action-adventure 3rd person shooter that blends a video game with a TV show for storytelling. The game was made by Remedy, the same people behind Alan Wake and Control. The story centers on Jack Joyce (Shawn Ashmore), granted time manipulation powers after a failed time-machine experiment, as he comes into conflict with former friend Paul Serene over how to deal with an apocalyptic "End of Time".
The story consists of 5 acts of gameplay and 4 episodes of live TV show. I found the story to be the main focal point of the game as it ties to older titles like Alan Wake and it also ties to Control (2019). So it's an interconnected universe Remedy is building. The story is pretty good. I really liked their approach to time travel, I loved the design of the time machine and in my opinion if a time machine were ever to exist it would probably look something like what they had in the game. They actually had to consult a real scientist when writing the story of the game to make it consistent, which is really cool. I also liked how there is so much to the story that it's really easy to miss things and end up being confused. I would highly recommend you watch an analysis of the story after you're done playing. I have to say that while I think the idea of merging a game with a TV show is pretty nice, it's just not something I personally enjoyed, as I wasn't that interested in the show mainly due to some of the performances in it.
The gameplay feels like an alpha for what we got in Control. It's a third-person shooter where you have multiple guns at your disposal and some abilities. I have to say that the gameplay, while I enjoyed it for the most part, felt underbaked. Some weapons didn't feel good to use and most of the abilities were centered around being close to the enemies when only one gun was reliable at long range. And as for the dreaded final boss, I might be in a small minority here but I actually thought it wasn't too bad. I played the game on normal difficulty and I beat it on my second try.
The graphics are really nice. Definitely ahead of their time. They were so good that you wouldn't mind the transition to the live TV show. The performance on the other hand was not great. The cutscenes were limited to 30 fps as this is a console port. So it would keep switching between 30 and 60 fps every time a cutscene started or ended, which was really annoying. Some sections were badly optimized too and my rig couldn't keep a smooth 60 fps. But overall it's a playable experience and you can always fix it to 30 fps and play on that.
TL;DR: If you like time travel, Alan Wake, or Control this game is for you!!

Had high hopes for this game as I remember enjoying it many years ago on console. Unfortunately, the PC version is not it. Performance issues, in-game cut scenes, and some in-game playing dropping to 30fps, while the video episodes constantly buffering, despite having over 70GB of pre-installed data.
