Oxenfree is a supernatural adventure game. Rites of passage and Senior year traditions set the stage for a group of friends sneaking off to Edwards Island, an old military outpost with no phone service. Players will take on the role of Alex as she brings her new stepbrother Jonas to an overnight party gone horribly wrong. Inspired by classic cult films like Stand by Me and Poltergeist, Oxenfree is an adventure that pulls from the past but looks to the present. “It’s a coming of age story where players control how their hero comes of age,” says Sean Krankel, co-founder of Night School. “We’re drawing on the fond and mortifying aspects of being in your late teens, and setting it against a dangerous and ghostly backdrop.”

Let me start by saying I absolutely loved most things about this game. The vibes were there, the characters had good chemistry, development, and voice acting, the story was really cool and not quite like anything I've ever seen before, and the art was well-made and unique. The gameplay itself, however, was incredibly buggy and clunky. There would be times when I would try to walk somewhere and get stuck on nothing, leading to me having to reset that part of the game by returning to the main menu. I also found that, as a walking simulator, this game could have used some work. I'm a fan of walking simulator style games when they're done properly, since there isn't much gameplay in games like that, the little that there is (the walking) needs to be polished and well-crafted. The walking in Oxenfree felt unnecessarily tedious, I got stuck on objects, and it overall detracted from my experience with this game. I did really enjoy the story once I understood it though, and I can appreciate when games create a reason to replay the campaign, and this game did that beautifully. Overall, I would recommend this game for the story but not for the gameplay, it felt like it would have made a better "choose your own adventure" book or TV show, like Black Mirror's Bandersnatch

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game. At first, I certainly had my doubts, but can happily say this game blew my expectations out of the water. From the story to the visuals, this game enthralled me me the more I played it. I definitely recommend giving this game a chance and really enjoyed what they were going for.

Such a good concept, and great voice acting. I've got one more run to do before I've 100% the game, and then I'll be on to Lost Signals!
I did not do the NG+ (i think there is a NG+? The game resets at the end and gives the impression of a sequel or a "go back and do it better" type of ending). This game is great, the art style is awesome, the music is awesome, but I have some serious complaints.
1) The music is too damn loud and you can NOT TURN IT DOWN. It's so loud that it encroaches on the VA's and ruins some scenes.
2) The story feels weird and like I was missing too much. Who is the man with the dog? How did I miss so much of the story when it feels like such a simple premise? Maybe that's me.
3) You literally just walk from one place to another over and over, and the walking is dreadfully slow and tedious. A new chatter for this game even came in at the beginning and said "Here comes the walking!"
Super good! Would and will replay, story was a little confusing but it could just be because I played it in parts. Overall had a great time!!!

Writing a review for this game is challenging without spoiling parts of the story. So, I will not go into what the story is about, but all I’m going to say is that it goes into the supernatural. The story is okay, nothing mind blowing, so are the characters. However, It’s amazing how they added branching into the story without making the “big decisions” seem like major influences on the outcome. For instance, you’d finish the game and not really know which choice exactly led to the ending you got, which is not the case for a lot of these "choose your fate" games. They tried to make the story the main mechanic of the game, and it just works. I would honestly recommend you play the game in a short time period so you don’t end up forgetting what happens and losing track of the story, because you might not understand the ending otherwise. The only thing I didn’t like about the game is how fast the dialogue options were…sometimes I didn’t even have enough time to read all the options. On the other hand, the walking speed felt too slow and could have been a little faster.
TL;DR: Overall, the game is pretty good, and it’s worth a playthrough if you’re into the supernatural. And you can get this game for free if you have a netflix subscription
