This is a story about death. Luto is a psychological horror experience where you take on the role of someone unable to leave their home. Every attempt to escape will lead you deeper into the unknown, where nothing is as it seems and everything will test your senses.
wtf

I cried like a baby

SCORE: 3 / 5
Story: 4/5
"LUTO" means mourning or grieving after loss. And this describes the plot quite well. I felt the story itself was good, but you had to read between lines and search beind the madness of the game to see and understand the details. For that, you have to get through the gameplay... which I will get to soon. It's not as Horror as I was expecting. I did get jumpscared a few times.
Visuals: 5/5
The graphics look great! Lighting, atmosphere, all well done. At first I was disappointed at the black bars, but if you play a bit you'll see that they have a reason to be there and are actually part of the game.
Audio: 5/5
Very good audio design, quite terrifying at times!
Gameplay: 2.5/5
It reminded me strongly of Madison and Visage. You wander through a house, lost, and the gameplay seems to consist mostly of randomly stumbling upon what you have to do or going where you need to be. Sometimes it makes sense, and you find an item and get this light-bulb moment, but not that often. And even if you know where you need to go, finding your way to get there again will be tricky. Looking for the one important item in a dark, messy and cluttered house frustrated me to be honest, but I get easily overstimulated. So I personally had to push through most of the time.
Enjoyment:
As you can deduct from the "Gameplay" part, I didn't enjoy it that much.
Difficulty:
Navigating through the dark and messy house is the hardest part. If you are patient enough for that, it's not hard.
Audience:
I'd say older teens and above.
Grind:
No grind per definition.. (but walking around these places itself felt grindy lol)
Bugs:
I had none that I could think of. Ran very well too, only some stutters if I entered a new region.
Replayability:
I will not replay this game.
Have you played LUTO, and if so, what were your thoughts?
