Dungeon & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun is set in the world of Mystara, a setting of the Dungeons & Dragons game. The characters find themselves in a strange, red-hued world in which the horizon slopes upward in all directions, eventually vanishing into a crimson haze at the limits of sight. Their mission is to find and make allies in this new world or else the kingdom and its culture will perish. The player leads a party of four characters (either the default party or one that the player has created). Characters and races can be chosen from the normal D&D options. The gameworld is viewed from an isometric perspective and the characters can roam around in realtime. Battles are turn based. Like most role-playing games, the gaming experience focuses on exploration, inventory management and character development.

The developers made the curious choice of basing this game on first edition Dungeons And Dragons at a time when Advanced Second Edition was being updated and refined.

Despite some of the old game functionality at play, this is a remarkable game adaptation of a pen-and-paper RPG. The story could be adapted to any campaign setting, and feels like something an experienced DM would think of. Apparently, Charisma only has one function in the game and works with a minimum of 16, but you don't lose anything by missing that secret.

There are lots of optional caves to explore and many classic magic items to find from a +2 axe, to gauntlets of strength. Magic and abilities function just as you'd expect, with limited slots for magic or abilities you spend time memorizing when you rest. You can rest any time you want, and for as long as you want. Every dungeon you explore has a map you can look at to find your way. Sadly, these maps reset each time you leave the area.

I didn't expect this to be such a user-friendly experience, nor would anyone expect this game to have such an excellent power metal soundtrack. Remember to cast Entangle on the red dragons so you can easily kill them to level up. Trust me. (:

Be warned that it will wear off inside dungeons, but not outside.

I don't recommend halflings, as a thief has more HP with the same abilities.
