Conarium is a chilling Lovecraftian game, which follows a gripping story involving four scientists and their endeavor to challenge what we normally consider to be the ‘absolute’ limits of nature. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s novella "At the Mountains of Madness", but largely set after the original story. You, as Frank Gilman, open your eyes inside a room filled with strange, pulsating noises. Patterns of lights executing a Danse Macabre on the walls is presented by a queer device on the table. Having recalled nothing other than that you’re in Upuaut, an Antarctic base located near south pole, you find the place deserted and have a distinct feeling of something being terribly wrong. Somehow knowing that your memories cannot guide you enforces a strange feeling of vulnerability, a familiar yet alien sensation of being a part of a peculiar whole... Soon you will discover that having used the device during the expedition, you have died but then returned subtly changed, speaking of strange memories and of strange places. You have lost something important or gained something sinister... Explore the antarctic base, as well as dreams and visions. Study clues, unlock secrets but avoid macabre beings at all cost.

A short walking sim with puzzles, atmosphere, interactable objects, collectibles, and based off of one of the many stories from Lovecraft. Gameplay was what was expected of a walking sim, and there were puzzles in various areas of the map you would need to draw, change dials, rotate statues, destroy walls, and equip items to help you progress. The story was simple enough to follow, but of course touched on deeper meanings of life, existence, and how to upgrade one's mind to other realities and the like. Visuals were overall pretty, detailed, and obvious that a lot of effort went into them. No clipping issues, the characters looked good, and I was actually surprised at how gorgeous one of the beings was too. Soundtrack I think is more than sufficient for what it was meant to do. Exciting parts had an energized backdrop while calm and quiet moments were paired with the same. I had a little difficulty understanding some of the dialogue, but I also played without subtitles. I am sure they would have helped, but each conversation is recorded in your journal anyway, so you can just read it afterwards if need be.

It was good until they forced in cheap scares and pretty bad trial & error-chase sequences with even cheaper payoffs. I should finish it at least, but the last time OBS wasn't even able to record it...
