Boku no Natsuyasumi 2: Umi no Bouken-hen

Adventure

Boku no Natsuyasumi 2: Umi no Bouken-hen is the sequel to Boku no Natsuyasumi and has a similar concept. The nine-year-old city boy Boku once again spends his summer vacation in the countryside in 1975. It is a alternate universe sequel where the character spends his vacation with his family in a different location, but still meets many characters from the first game. The sequel is set in a Japanese southern coastal town on the tropical Izu Peninsula where his aunt and uncle have a bed and breakfast. The game consists of fixed screen, pre-rendered environments with 3D models and a cinematic camera with a different viewpoint for each scene. Boku's vacation only lasts 31 days, but the player is free to choose how to spend his time as it is presented as a sandbox environment. It is possible to seek quests and help the people in town to solve their problems, but he can also choose to ride his bike anywhere, go bughunting, spend time fishing, dive into the ocean, launch a rocket, go on walk, play hide and seek, or play a mini-game of beetle wrestling. Many scenes offer interaction for the sake of exploration, with no further purpose. Time advances when a new scene is entered, so it is not possible to complete all content in a single playthrough.

Overall Score : 9.6/10 Steam Deck Man ....what a game... I kinda started this game on a whim ,I just saw a game called Bokura no Kazoku ,but there was no english translation and my Japanese is poor ,so I found another game by the same devs which had an english patch and that's how I met this masterpiece. The gameplay is very simple, but fitting. The game has fixed camera and time moves on when they change, we have dinner at 6 pm and go to bed at around 10-11,so we have limited time on what to do each day. There are various activities like interacting with characters and learn stuff about them , bug and fish collecting and my beloved beetle sumo in which I beat the queen. The game builds a fantastic atmosphere of nostalgia and really made me miss my childhood summers. The story was far better than expected honestly , it's still basically very simple ,you are a boy Boku who spends his summer at his uncles and there are various adventures you experience. My favourite story arc was the ghost girl who started appearing at the clinic during the evening hours and proved to be Yasuko's and Hikari's grandma who died of sickness. The Yoshika story arc was also pretty good with her being a cop and arresting that old man who was a criminal. I loved each and every character honestly and they were all pretty memorable. My favourites are Boku obviously, Yasuko who had some really nice arcs like the one with her mother and the one with Yoh with whom she reconnected, Hikari because she is so fun and adorable, especially at the end when she was constantly implying that she would move with Boku and Yoshika as she was really interesting. I really didn't want the game to end and the ending made me really emotional, one because of the song by Happy End which is a band I love and secondly because of the whole concept of leaving,it felt relatable as I'll leave my country sooner or later and consequently all my loved ones behind and it teared my heart apart. All in all ,Boku no Natsuyasumi 2 is an excellent game a true gem among gems ,which I absolutely recommend.
