You may have played Axiom Verge, or heard it referenced as a benchmark for indie “metroidvania” adventures. Axiom Verge 2 is part of the same story as Axiom Verge 1 but is a completely new game: new characters, new powers, new enemies, and a new world. You can play it before or after the original.

This game was not as good as the first. The combat was much less intense than the first game. The bosses had no challenge and most basic enemies didn't present a challenge after a few upgrades. The exploration and gameplay were the best. I made nearly no connection with the game to the first, other than one visual/area in the game, but I don't recall the lore of the first and they may have been overlapping.

Billionaire business mogul Indra Chaudhari investigates a newly acquired research outpost in Antarctica, but her investigation traps her in an alternate universe where even the laws of physics are different. As she looks for a way home, she acquires new abilities, but becomes less and less human... but does that make her a different person? Life. Afterlife. Real. Virtual. Dream. Nightmare. It’s a thin line. It’s Axiom Verge. The sequel (or, perhaps, a prequel) to the acclaimed Axiom Verge, the graphics in this game are just as well done, if a bit simpler in reflection of their setting. The music is just as good as the first game's, if not better. The gameplay is quite different this time around, focusing much more on exploration than combat, and with combat mostly being melee-based. Though not to eveyrone's liking, AV2 is definitely worth a try for any Metroidvania fan, and a must-play for any fan of the Axiom Verge series.
