This was my first ever Yakuza game and it was a weird place to start from. There was a lot of missing knowledge that most people would have had from playing previous games, but it also makes sense from Ichiban's view who also knows nothing.
This game come away from the brawler style combat into JRPG turn based and it's not something I enjoyed at all. Combat encounters took way too long to complete, there were mobs at every turn so exploring the city was horrendous.
The story though was 10/10. Really loved what they did and how they tied it into the previous games now that I have the knowledge and they really changed the future of upcoming games.
The platinum was disgusting. You had to grind out levels in dungeons and xp gain was sloooooooooooooooow. Final Millennium Tower was awful. Majima and Saejima were way too OP and Amon party wiped you instantly.
The game was very hit and miss for me but worth playing for the story alone.

They got rid of this game in game pass so now I can't play it 😢

A fun game with nice gameplay. I'm a turn-based JRPG fan, so I do like the combat mechanic, but I feel like it doesn't really fit the Yakuza games' setting. Even though the story is interesting and feels personal to Ichiban, I also felt as if it was too "anime-ish": dragged out at times and overexplained. The ending was impactful, and kudos to Ichiban's voice actor, because it was painful watching the scene and listening to the emotions in Ichiban's voice, but let's also say that the final plot twist felt a little more like a meme rather than a dramatic moment. But those are some thought that I will further develop in a future review.

Got me into the Yakuza series, also the first Yakuza game that I finished and also 100% steam achievement. However, there is still more stuff that can be unlocked in-game.

Didn't except a Yakuza game be this good in a turn based gameplay😍
Great storyline. Several annoying buzzkill bosses and few boring grinding places but overall good enough
This was the first entry where the formula changed from a beat em up with RPG elements, to a turn based rpg. Even though the combat changed, the game still kept it's identity... Because Yakuza games can go from silly to serious in a matter of seconds.
This is another example showing that turn based games are still thriving!
Ichiban had some big shoes to fill after the Kiryu saga (if you played the earlier Yakuza entries), but he absolutely delivers as an MC. It can also serve as a standalone game, which is refreshing. What an excellent game~
