The concept of a "microgame" is something that definitely existed before WarioWare Inc was released, though it was something we collectively did not have a name for yet. WarioWare is a collection of games that can be played in mere seconds and generally boil down to "do X", whether that be something as simple as hopping over an approaching enemy or as obtuse as twirling up an entire plate of spaghetti onto your fork as fast as you can. There really isn't much of a "story" to WarioWare; the framework you get is that Wario is trying to think of a new hustle to earn money, hears a news report about a video game that sold well enough to make millions, and then decides that's what he's going to do too. The "B plot" of the game is that all of Wario's neighborhood friends are making their way to the local gelateria to get frozen treats and as you complete their chapters they reach their destination. The game makes little sense, something that is compounded by how virtually every microgame is off the wall bonkers either in appearance or direction. That's fine though, this is not a game that's supposed to make any sense -- the "plot" is just trimming and has zero bearing on the game itself, multiple characters don't even make their chapters about getting to the gelateria at all (only one of them does: Mona, who works at the restaurant and is nearly late for work). WarioWare might be hard for newcomers to play because it is overwhelming almost from the start. The introduction games are very simple, but they come at you so fast that you barely have time to react. That's the beauty of WarioWare however, nearly every game is a surprise even when you've memorized the catalog of games for a specific character. Your only direction is a single action word ("JUMP", "SHOOT", "SPIN", etc) before you're dropped into the microgame to figure it out, and have mere seconds before another word is thrown at you and the cycle repeats. Everything about the game is superb. The presentation is humorous, the characters are memorable and fun, and the soundtrack is perhaps one of the most iconic on the Game Boy Advance platform. The WarioWare's composers knew they were working on a hit because the stand out song of the game, "Drifting Away" (the theme of Dribble & Spitz), has no less than six different mixes that play throughout the game and its melodies and samples were used in multiple other places including the credits roll. There are also multiple minigames to unlock, some of which can be played with two people on the same GBA with each player using only the L or R shoulder buttons to control their character. The entirety of Dr. Mario is also here by way of a "spiritual sprite hack" named Dr. Wario. Released in 2003, WarioWare is perhaps the first proper example of Nintendo curating and celebrating their company history. The entire catalog of games belonging to 9-Volt feature little vertical slices of experiences from some of Nintendo's most memorable hits (and misses too, the rarely seen Virtual Boy gets its own feature by way of a Mario Clash microgame). You can tell the creators of WarioWare truly loved the project they were working on as their enthusiasm shines through in every single graphic and composition on the cartridge.

Insanely fun mini games that I'm sure I would've spent hours and hours playing on the OG GBA had I owned the game back then.
