Having been labelled as the game that inspired a particular scene in John Wick 4, my interest was peaked for Hong Kong Massacre, and though I can see where inspiration struck for Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves, the game itself leaves alot to be desired. The gameplay as it is, is serviceable, often times fun in a frantic 'make one wrong move and you're screwed' sort of way, but when you keep making those same mistakes, the momentum and good will you may have go straight out the window. When it works, HKM is blisteringly fun, but nothing really changes in amongst the 35 levels on offer; seen one, seen them all. With some noticable rough edges, HKM serves as a proof of concept for a far more ambitious game that seemingly never came to pass. The story is minimal, it's text at the bottom of an uninteresting screen, unvoiced and so lackluster that I couldn't even tell you the main characters name. I think i got my money's worth having picked the game up in the steam sale for a few quid but I wouldn't suggest parting with anything over £5 for the experience.
