The world is in peril as forces, both good and evil, make a play for the powerful Chaos Emeralds. In Shadow the Hedgehog, you can control Shadow and choose which side to fight for. This 3D platformer lets you use weapons, vehicles, environmental objects, and time and space manipulation to combat your foes. Although it is a 3D platform game as with the more recent Sonic Adventure games, the game's levels each feature up to three different missions (Hero, Dark, Normal) that the player may choose to complete. The game's plot depends on which mission is completed as well as subsequent playable levels. The game stars Shadow the Hedgehog and his quest to recover his memory, a goal he has been pursuing since his debut in Sonic Adventure 2, while an evil alien race known as the Black Arms is invading the planet.

I've come to make an announcement. Shadow the Hedgehog is... quite a damn game 🙃 It has a lot of ups and downs. The gameplay is not perfect but it was still a fun ride doing all those levels to get all the endings to aquire the final ending. The story is alright, I kind of don't understand why people say this game kinda ruined Shadow's character, he was okay to me. But not gonna lie, what made me enjoy playing this game was by remembering Snapcube's real time fandub and made me interpret here and there, otherwise I would have thrown the controller to the wall everytime I was dying due to the gameplay bugs. Overall, for a first time playing it, it was an okay and fun game. Maybe I'll play it again someday... BUT NOT THAT SOON!

This is a game that I went into with extremely low expectations, and I must say - to some extent I was surprised. It definitely wasn't good, but I got a lot more value out of it than I expected. First, lets address the elephant in the room: beating the game 10 times is miserable. I think the game wouldve significantly improved if you only had to get 5 endings (one for each main branch instead of 2). This means you would (still) have to play westopolis 5 times, but after that you would only have to play two of the levels in the second layer of the flowchart twice, and all the rest only once. This is significantly better than being forced to replay most levels twice, and those two mentioned above 4 times (and westopolis 10!!!). I found myself not caring about this as much after doing half of the endings and then taking an extended break before doing the latter half, and also the fact that the majority of levels only require two playthroughs; still very *not* ideal however. The sheer exhaustion of these levels is drawn out by some of their terrible level objectives, some on par or worse than the chaotix missions from sonic heroes. Being forced to scrounge a level for pointless objectives is not fun and very anti-sonic design philosophy. Even though each run averages out to an hour - an hour and a half or so it can sometimes feel like an eternity has passed. Shadow also does not control very well, once you pick up any speed he goes far too fast to control reliably, made even worse by his slippery movement and many levels which are just not designed with speed in mind at all. Bosses are mostly piss easy since you can just shoot them to melt their healthbars, made even easier when you eventually get chaos blast and/or chaos control. However, spefically the boss fight against Sonic and Diablon decides to break this rule and be frustratingly long and boring, which made me appreciate the easy boss fights a lot more, à la Sonic Superstars. Now for the positive: The gun play is surprisingly fun. Its funny considering its the one thing people use to love to clown on about the game back when it came out. It honestly works pretty well, and makes clearing objectives involving killing enemies a lot less of a pain, Shadow locks onto enemies pretty reliably, even when moving fast. The music for this game is all really good, I don't know why this soundtrack seemingly isn't talked about as much as the other ones. It has some really good stage themes, such as "The Doom" or "Black Comet", and honestly some of the best vocal themes of the series, which this games has many of. Both musically and lyrically these songs provide perfect encapsulations of the different endings Shadow can attain. For example: "The Chosen One" represents Shadow's struggle with his past and his lack of will to move on in the neutral-hero endings. Or "Waking up" being all about neutral Shadow's apathy. I expected the writing to be more hit or miss, but honestly outside of moments where Shadow really overdoes his edgy-ness (to the point of humor), and some bizarre characterization of Sonic himself, it has really good character writing of Shadow. This game provides a very interesting character study of Shadow, putting him in a completely clean slate (and actually using it this time unlike heroes) and showing how he could've ended up depending on his influences. Black Doom and Shadow have a very cool dynamic where Doom manipulates (or in some endings fails to manipulate) a naive amnesiac Shadow. This leads to an exploration of "what ifs" for overly evil Shadow, overly heroic Shadow and everything inbetween. All of which I found quite interesting and well handled. One that stuck out to me in particular is one of the Hero-Neutral paths, where Shadow decides to be the guardian of the Space Colony ARK, which feels like a very believable possibility, a Shadow that clings to the past and exiles himself to space. The true ending, fittingly, implies that the path Shadow took wasn't one of pure evil, pure heroism, or pure neutrality; rather a mixture of all three. It focuses heavily on how Shadow lives in the past and is all about him learning to move forward. Whether it be from the ones he loved, his circumstances or the ones he saved, he will forge his own path forward. Hence "I'll never turn back again". Ultimately it feels like this game was trying to blend Heroes (one of their best selling games) with Adventure 2 (one of their most beloved games) and it failed to excel at either. RIP to that poor employee that had to write 326 names for every possible path in the game.

Don't let the 2 star fool you. I do like the game. There were just some odd choices for the story telling. Very annoying to go though the 1st lvl over 10 times just to get all ending to get the true ending witch don't really tell us anything for Shadow. The game could of never came out and Shadow would still be the same Shadow. I just wish the levels were set up differently and a better pay off at the end. I did enjoy the game play.

um dos games do Sonic que achei massa demais! mais Dark! com Armas! você pode escolher entre ser Vilão ou Herói, otimas trilha sonoras tudo no metal! e as Cutscenes são incríveis!

i loved the gameplay in this and the good and evil routes i hated playing the game 12 times for a true ending instead of maybe 3 requirements
