Road 96 is a crazy, beautiful road-trip. The discovery of exciting places, and unusual people on your own personal journey to freedom. An ever-evolving story-driven adventure inspired by Tarantino, The Coen Brothers, and Bong Joon-ho. Moments of action, exploration, contemplative melancholy, human encounters and wacky situations. Set against a backdrop of authoritarian rule and oppression. A stunning visual style, a soundtrack filled with 90s hits, and a thousand routes through the game combine so each player can create their own unique stories on Road 96.

A sound, unique game with interesting commentary. The developers do a good job at getting you to understand where each character is coming from. The environment and visual are also done nicely. The one part that never caught on for me is how my decisions impacted the story. Choosing dialogue that was pro rebel or pro voting said it was influencing the story, but it was never clear how it influenced the story. Had that been more obvious, this would have been a four star game for me.
70th Platinum.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! Compelling story about crossing the border when you don't feel as though you can live in your country anymore. BEAUTIFUL storylines, KICKASS MUSIC (hell yes Toxic Avenger and Sonya's Limo was 😍). Easy replayability (no one game is ever the same). Fun, endearing mini games and really good artistic direction. 10/10!!
Highly recommend for heavy story lovers especially stories that make you think, feel, and question the world around you.

Game Review: Road 96
⭐ 6/10
Road 96 is one of those games that immediately pulls you in with its vibes. The artwork is beautiful, the environments are stylish, and the soundtrack? Honestly doing a lot of heavy lifting here — it kept me going even when my brain started drifting.
That said, the story is where I kept getting lost. The game leans very heavily into political themes, and that’s just not my thing — not in real life, and definitely not in my games. I found myself zoning out during certain moments because I just couldn’t connect with that side of the narrative, even though I could tell it was well thought out.
The structure is interesting: 7 episodes, 7 different kids, all trying to make their way to the border. It can get confusing at first — new character, new situation, new everything — but once you settle in, it’s manageable. You just have to rewire your brain a little every episode.
The repetitive gameplay loop did start to wear on me after a while, but the soundtrack kept saving the experience. Every time I felt boredom creeping in, the music pulled me right back. It really sets the mood and carries the journey more than I expected.
Overall, Road 96 is a visually striking, music-driven experience with a story that clearly has something important to say — even if that message didn’t fully click with me. I enjoyed parts of the ride, vibed hard with the soundtrack, but never fully connected with the journey as a whole.
Final verdict: 6/10 — beautiful presentation, great music, but a story focus that just wasn’t for me.
