This episode in the fantasy Might & Magic series built around a new LithTech-powered, 3D game engine. Improvements include overland maps, branching conversations, a new class system, more flexible spell casting, and twenty-three unique skills. The adventure begins with a player's adventure party voyages from Cheh'dian to Mendossus to gather fresh supplies. The boat they are traveling on crashes into the Isle of Ashes in the middle of the Verhoffin Sea. You and the rest of the survivors are scattered amongst the wreckage. Once you have re-assembled what is left of your team your fate soon unravels and you must reunite the 6 clans of the Cheh'dian against invading hordes from the west. Ten continents and forty dungeons must be explored.

PRO: it had the potential to be one of the, if not THE best 'Might and Magic' in the series based on what is finished... CON: ...but as it stands, it is more like a big, empty and ugly reminder of the consequences of corporate greed gone wrong

B- | Ah, Might and Magic 9. From what I hear this game is panned by the Might and Magic community and, in my experience, for good reason. The game had a host of behind-the-scenes issues in development that are quite apparent in the final product. There are more than a few notable bugs, unfinished quests, and pacing issues. Character customization is a further step back even from MM8. Sprinkle in some questionable sound design and you get a clear picture of a product shipped too early. But the game is not a total loss. There are some fun quests, some cool monsters, and some very funny writing and dialogue. It’s not a terrible game in my opinion, but it is clearly undercooked and not a worthy follow up to a beloved series with 8 strong titles in its lineup. Might be worth a play if it's on sale and you are a die hard fan of the series.
