A Path to Peace and Acceptance.

A delicate indie puzzle that invites players to reflect on grief, loss and moving on in a quiet, meaningful way.

How to Say Goodbye starts with a lovely personal touch — you fill in a letter about someone who passed, including things like their favorite food, pronouns, and even customize their ghost. It sets the tone for a game that’s thoughtful and heartfelt without being heavy.

The puzzle mechanic is pretty unique. It’s the first time I’ve seen this kind of tile-moving mechanic. It can feel a little tricky because of the cursor, but that's not a problem. Most puzzles are fairly easy, though the portal challenged me a bit. Still, solving them made me feel clever and satisfied. Along the way, you meet all kinds of ghost characters and help them move on. Though it only takes a few hours to complete, the game handles its themes in such a calm and comforting way.

The story feels like a beautifully illustrated picture book—simple, sweet, and full of meaning. Somehow, it deals with grief and loss, but in a way that doesn't make me feel sad, but rather calm and peaceful. After finishing the main story, there’s a bonus chapter, which was a good addition.

The art style is adorable and storybook-like, with colors that match the emotional mood of each chapter. The level design is creative and never feels repetitive. It's fun and offers new challenges as the story progresses. The characters are charming, each with their own stories and unresolved emotions, seek to find peace and move on to the afterlife.

What stayed with me most was the metaphor behind the tile-moving mechanic.. it reflects how, in grief, we can’t change the past, but we can gently guide ourselves (and others) toward healing and move on. The ghosts called Spleens represent the difficulty of letting go. They aren’t enemies, just lost souls and part of the journey.

And the achievements are great. My favorite was "Introspection," which says: "Sometimes, to find the way forward, you must first find yourself." Simple but meaningful.

Everyone’s moved on. I know you’ve had someone by your side, someone who helped you through so much. But now, it’s your turn to continue the journey on your own. Be stronger. Be kinder. Become a better version of yourself, and make those watching from above proud. If you're grieving, you can cry. It's okay to cry. Allow yourself to cry at your lose, time will heal all wounds. With time, you won't feel the pain as often anymore. It will hurt less as you heal.
