This was a really pleasant surprise and a huge improvement over Altair's Chronicles. The first things I immediately noticed when starting the game was that it looked much better, had actual voice acting (sadly Ezio's VA is different), and it played significantly better than the previous DS game.
Gameplay is fast and smooth. The design has forgone the attempt at 3D environments and instead opts for a completely 2D platforming setting. It's shockingly faithful to the series in the way it translates everything into a 2D perspective. Ezio is fast and controls very well. Combat has familiar mechanics. Stealth is the weakest part of the game as speed is highly incentivized by the rankings after each level. It lends itself to speedrunning which is actually very fun in this.
Story is also more interesting than the original and actually ends with some level of closure. I say "some" for a reason but it's still more satisfying than the previous DS entry.
This is clearly the entry that went on to inspire the design for the Chronicles games, and this was a surprisingly good proof of concept for it.

could have been better but ok for a past time
