Unicorn Overlord boasts a beautiful art style and great music, fitting for a TRPG. However, the gameplay loop becomes repetitive, focused on exploring, finding, and liberating towns. The story's potential is hindered by a lack of character depth. With 60 characters and rapport chats scattered across the map, developing connections feels challenging. The timer encourages rushing, diminishing the importance of strategic party composition beyond basic roles. Overall I enjoyed my time with it, but I was bored with it by the time I hit the last third.

Juego sorpresa donde he disfrutado de principio a fin. Podria llegar a ser repetitivo pero las conminaciones de unidades hacen que las batallas puedan ser muy diferentes llevadas. Es un juego que se nota que es el primero de este estilo de la compañia pero las bases son buenas para si quisieran sacar una segunda entrega solo tendrian que mejorar pocas cosas.

Another awesome game from Vanillaware! I spent so much time optimizing my teams as I played, probably more time doing that than actually battling. I had so much fun tweaking tactics and formations. Started out in tactical, but after a while I was one-shotting too much, so I switched to expert and had a harder time, but still wasn't too bad if I put in the time to really learn and adjust my teams. Still had some units strong enough to one-shot enemies, but not all the time, nothing that was completely full-proof. Maybe I could've if I really spent the time, but I wanted to have several good squads, I usually had about 4 good ones. There were definitely some units I didn't use, like most of the bestrals or fighters in general. Maybe one day I'll go back and do a NG+ and try to utilize more of what I didn't this first playthrough. Story was alright, felt quite standard affair, especially after the crazy story they did for 13 Sentinels, but I really enjoyed the dialouge and voice acting. Lots of writing done so eloquently. Overall, even though it doesn't break into my top 10, it was still a super amazing game that I had a lot of fun with, real dream team building game, I hope more tactical games will take some of the customization strengths of this one.

I've played 13 Sentinels first prior to this game and loved it, though I didn't finish it. I've heard that they were making another game called 'Unicorn Overlord' and wasn't particularly excited for that game. Nevertheless, I kept it in my radar because I did have a good time with 13 Sentinels, and Vanillaware is a studio I appreciate. The demo came out, and while I wasn't initially invested in the story, I got hooked instantly with the gameplay and was definitely less hesitant to buy the game. I bought it a week after its initial launch as it was a struggle to find a physical copy for the switch. Suffice to say. I ended up loving the game. Gameplay Pro - Amazing, it was so satisfying playing building up your army and trying out different sets of members in your army to figure out what works and what doesn't. - While it you don't have a hands-on with playing the actual battle and its determined by how much damage you can put into the enemy unit, it's still so satisfying with how figure out the tactic and watching your unit absolutely crushing the enemy - Again, creativity was its advantage, the freedom to experiment as much as you can when figuring out how to defeat the enemy is key to this game. Con - Arguably, the only problem I have with the gameplay is the grind aspect, there was a period of gaming sessions where I spent it on levelling up all my characters to a minimum level before continuing on with the story simply because they were too under-levelled to be effective in the battlefield. Story & Characters - You follow the story of Alain, a crowned prince and commander of the Liberation Army on a quest to free Feverith from the crutches of the Zenoiran Empire... creative I know. Compared to 13 Sentinels which features a complex plot, Unicorn Overlord's story is weaker. However, it did a good job with establishing the world within the game. The world-building was simply well-done. - There are so many characters. SO. MANY. CHARACTERS!!!! People thought 13 Sentinels had a lot of characters to follow... wait till you play this game. Yes, Alain is a textbook protagonist 101 but he served his purposed in this game and the rest of the cast shine through. Speaking of characters, there is so many options for you to romance it's insane (the fact that you can romance a fox and an owl should give you a rundown on how much variety you get when romancing) Visuals and Music - Vanillaware always has a unique art style and this game is no different. There were many instances where I couldn't help but be in awe at the backdrops for the cutscenes that played. Their water-painting artstyle has come in clutch once again. There really isn't anything else to say about it. - The music is... well... what can I say besides amazing. The moment I started to play the game and that Battle theme was played in the tutorial section, I was hooked. This company collaborating with Basicscape has always put out a feast for us to enjoy and I'm always grateful for that. Side quests - There are overworld quest that are your run-of-the-mill side quests. You get chicken collecting, collecting shards, treasure-hunting ancient sigil hunting. Non-offensive things to do while playing the game. - Side quests aren't really side-quests, these are where Unicorn Overlord starts to shine. They felt more like extensions to the main story and introduced us to characters that are great additions to the Liberation Army, it is always nice to be introduced to more members for you to choose when building your army. Overall - With all of that said, Unicorn Overlord is a unique game, it's basic story has been carried by its unique gameplay, interesting characters and amazing visuals and music, it is guaranteed to be placed in my top 10 games that has come out this year. It has solidified Vanillaware into one of my favourite game developers to look out for. Their willingness to always strive for amazing games has been recognised by me and I can't wait to see what else they're cooking for us to enjoy.

Das schönste Kriegspiel überhaubt! Unicorn Overlord bietet eine Menge: Wunderschöne Kulissen, Musik, Figuren und Echtzeitstrategie, in die man eintauchen kann sowie eine offene Welt, deren Erkundung schnell süchtig macht. Die automatisierten Kämpfe und teils zu detailreichen Oberflächen sind aber sicher nichts für jeden Taktik-Fan.

Done with the game + post game quest. While the story isn't the greatest out there, I really enjoyed playing the game overall and exploring the world and doing a lot of battles. What really got me hooked to this game was the gameplay. It's fun to come up with different team formations and skill conditions that I mostly spent so much time with it offline even when the game isn't really that long to beat.

Внезапно хорошая тактикулина. Механика боев тут в реал тайме происходит и отряды дерутся в режиме автобатлера, и чтобы решить проблему долгих партий они лимит по времени сделали. Можно настроить поведение отряда чтобы использовали те или иные навыки и пасивки в разных ситуациях, но всеравно игра достаточно легкая даже на эксперте( новую сложку после прохождения не щупал). Сюжет максимально предсказуемый, но дизайн роляет сильно и имеются тема из емблеки когда отношения качаются не только с гг но и между отрядами. К сожалению на последней четверти гемплей становиться очень репетативным и мне пришлось просто рашить до концовки супер отрядом. В общем пожелаю команде Vanillaware успехов с новым айпи, получилась добротный конкурент нынешним крупным тактик франшизам.

PLUS: - Musiques très sympa - Beaucoup de classes à débloquer à travers le jeu, avec une énorme personnalisation dans la façon dont nos persos doivent jouer - Une bonne ambiance en général - De l'exploration avec de petits secrets qui récompensent bien le joueur - Bataille simulée pour faire des tests avec nos troupes - Plein de mécanismes à prendre en compte pour bien maitriser le jeu - Plein de persos. Avec de très bonnes animations, design bien soigné et du bon doublage avec des doubleurs connus (ENG / JAP) - Il y a même du motion boobs ! - Du scoring pour chaque combat qui nous récompensent en fonction de nos performances - Grosse durée de vie (70h en mode Expert) - Pas besoin de grind si on finit totalement chaque zone - Possibilité d'enchanter les armes de bas niveau pour les rendre à nouveaux utiles au haut niveai - Très beau final - Pas besoin de Patchs, le jeu est fini de A à Z. On paye pour ce qu'on a MOINS: - Le mode Expert, pas vraiment compliqué si on fait bien chaque zone en entier - L'interface avec des tonnes d'infos de partout et c'est vite le bordel. Un petit temps d'adaptation pour bien s'y retrouver - Un peu répétitif dans la progression du jeu: Petite zone / Petite histoire / Mission / Repeat - Mais tout n'est pas doublé. Avec une impression d'aquarium pour la version ENG - L'histoire ne profite pas du potentiel du casting, c'est bien dommage - Chaque combat a un timer, cela peut être frustrant - Les combats en full auto. Pas d'interaction de la part du joueur - Des choix dans les dialogues, mais sans grosse importance (tuer / épargner / recruter) En fonction de cela, il y a plusieurs fins dont une vraie fin - Des relations entre les persos, mais pas si profond que ça - Un gouffre entre certaines classes en termes d’équilibrage - Les premiers combats, on laisse chaque animation, mais après, c'est du full skip. Parfois l'impression que la caméra part dans tous les sens, et que c'est trop zoomé. - Pas de sortie sur PC - On peut skip carrément 2 zones entières si on complète les zones précédentes - Mode arène PvP, mais c'est vraiment du bonus - Pas de NG+ après avoir débloqué de nouvelles choses à la fin - Pas de trigger pour perso spécifique. Pas un tactical, ça craint quand même Un très bon jeu avec une qualité incroyable, que ça soit dans le contenu mais aussi en QoL. Un jeu à faire définitivement si on a aimé faire FF12 / FF Tactics / Tactics Ogre... Si on hésite vraiment, il y a une grosse démo (7h) dispo pour se faire une idée. Et si on l'achète après la démo, on peut transférer la sauvegarde pour continuer notre progression. Dommage que l'histoire reste l'air de rien banale, et sans NG+, sinon le jeu serait déjà mon GOTY de l'année 2024.
