Played this game BEFORE playing RE5 and I think it was the right call! This game ALONE made me love Resident Evil wayyyy more!!
Gameplay:
This game is such a hybrid and perfect blend of SOOO many games in my personal gaming experience and opinion. The game has vibes of RE1 Remake (Gamecube) and even og RE2 for the 1st half of the game, while blending the camera and action of og RE4 and RE5 throughout your playthrough! What REALLY pulled me into Rev 1's gameplay were two additional things; the scanning and the feelings from the episodic format! The scanning and inventory, (sorta, to an extent) in Rev 1 reminded me SOOO MUCH of the Metroid Prime games in the best possible way and rewards the players for scanning often in a better way than Metroid Prime 1 did, and that's one of my favorite games ever! The game's episodic format reminded me of another game I really love as well and that's Alan Wake 1 and Alan Wake 2! It felt like such nostalgia to see the "previously on..." and the Chapter titles for each episode in Rev 1 for me due to how much I loved playing and going through Alan Wake 1's story! To think this was on the 3DS initially is still incredible in my mind due to how Capcom must've really pushed that system and how underappreciated it was back then! The weapon upgrades in this game really make Jill feel even more of a badass as you play through Rev 1 and she became one of my fave protagonists in Resident Evil over Claire because of this one game due to how incredible her gameplay felt! Also, dodging makes it's return (as well as some parrying with your knife against certain projectiles) from og RE3 but it's more refined and responsive. It feels INCREDIBLE to finally dodge enemies as Jill with whatever weapon she's holding and even WHILE she's reloading too! She is SUCH a badass!! One really cool feature that I wish was used a bit more in the game (early game feature), was how when the boat swayed against the waves of the ocean, your aim was also affected by the swaying of the ship too! It's such a logical and really nice touch that I wish was used more often, as it would've EASILY made the player feel more scared of them missing their shots due to the crashing of the waves against the boat, and encounters more stressful as your ammo count dwindles with each miss, as a result but feel satisfying with each headshot as you breathe a sigh of relief until the next encounter!
Visuals:
For a game that was originally on the 3DS and remastered essentially for modern consoles, this game is visually appealing! The level designs shine in this game but more importantly, this game's setting in a ship was such a genius move! The Queen Zenobia echoes the sentiments of abandonment, isolation and the dilapidated but regal look, of the Mansion in RE1 Remake (gamecube) and even RCPD in og RE2 as well as the lab in og RE2! The enemy designs while similar in palette for the most part, do have their distinctions and when you notice them, you start to appreciate them way more, especially when you remember, this was a game originally designed with the specs of the 3DS in mind! With that being said, how do the character designs look? The characters are all easily identifiable, with Chris looking a lot more like his RE5 version and Jill being the version of her before the events of RE5 but distinct from her og RE3 look. This is by far the best design for Jill and she looks STUNNING! They nailed her design and she steals just about any moment the game focuses on her or even when she's sharing the screen with other characters.
Story:
The story for this game starts out pretty mysterious but does become a bit predictable towards the end, which might be this game's weakest point but not by much. Without spoiling the game, Jill and Parker, a new secondary character, board the Queen Zenobia to search for Chris Redfield initially but stumble upon something that may or may not be linked to a tragedy and eventual, bioterroism plan. Meanwhile, Chris is searching for the whereabouts of Jill, while also uncovering something related to what Jill discovered! That being said, this is where the episodic format kicks and the player does have to be mindful that this game was originally designed for the 3DS as Capcom felt it fitting for story progress to take an episode each as that would roughly take up the commute time for many people back when this game released on the 3DS! I mentioned earlier how Jill is the protagonist for this game, the player does play as other characters throughout the campaign. While og RE3 was her main game, it felt like Chris and even Carlos to an extent, tried to overshadow her the way Claire was overshadowed in Code Veronica in the long run. That's not the case here. While you do get to play as other characters briefly, they don't compare to how cool and badass it felt to play as Jill! This is her game and her spotlight and she is not shying away from it! This game feels great when playing it before or after RE5 and should not be skipped!
OST:
This game has a good amount of memorable tracks! Without trying to sound like a broken record, there was only so much the 3DS was capable of with its hardware and while this is essentially a remaster/port of that game, there are some really great tracks such as the main menu theme, the theme upon accessing the inventory box and my personal favorite, the theme that plays as you enter the rooms before the solarium. Also the music that plays as you search the Queen Zenobia's dark halls feel like such a callback to RE1 and og RE2's RCPD in my opinion.
After finally playing through this game, I was hooked from the moment Jill appeared on screen and stepped foot on the Queen Zenobia. I wanted more of her and the survival horror aspects early game but loved the combat as more enemies were introduced as the story progresses. This game has something in it for everybody and should not be missed out! It made me so curious to see how it runs and plays on a 3DS to the point that I want to do a playthrough of it on the 3DS for stream! This game has easily become my 2nd favorite RE game and my favorite game starring Jill Valentine! She has shot up to my favorite playable RE female protagonist alongside Ada! I cannot wait to play RE5 and RE Rev 2 soon!!! To think, I still have the Raid mode and NG+ for this game as well! Incredible value for this game! Must play!

В плане сюжета очень не плохой детективный триллер. В плане геймплей все-таки слабовато. Особенно душит скан, который спокойно можно было вырезать из игры.

Jill Valentine🙏
Decided to get back into the single player Resident Evil games and where to begin but with this game, the one right after 4 if you exclude 5 and 6
