Right away, I am docking 1 whole star based entirely on Atlus lying about not intending to release The Answer. Also the fact this is 30 dollar DLC when it was in the base disc of FES. You win that round, FES purists. (Like base Reload, I played on Hard. I did not fight Joker.) Your enjoyment of this DLC hinges on 1 major question: do you REALLY like the combat system of Persona 3 Reload? If so, then you will get a lot of enjoyment of this, as combat is the central focus with story being given to you in pieces until they flood you with it at the last 2 hours. If you don't, you're gonna have a bad time. From this point on, when I say "The Answer," I am referring to Episode Aigis as well as they're primarily the same in all aspects. Combat and the exploration of the Abyss of Time is the central focus here. There are events when you acquire certain items to obtain traits you also had on characters in the main story, but beyond that this is a DLC light on story until the end. That's not to say the story parts we do get are bad. No, when the story takes center stage, it's good, it's just all the fighting and running around you need to do to get there that could slowly whittle away at whether or not you want to keep pushing on. For the people who played Persona 3 more for the life sim stuff and less the combat system, I'm going to use a point touted by people in the past. If you really, really don't want to go through 100+ more floors of a dungeon like Tartarus, I would advise just watching the cutscenes on YouTube. The constant encounters can honestly feel like a slog, especially for those who weren't big on RPGs in the first place. Outside of that, Ken got the glowup of the century. No longer locked to being unusable for about half the game, he can actually be used from the start. In exchange, however, Yukari was nerfed to oblivion. Ken gets Mediarama very early on. Yukari doesn't get it until around Level 50 or so, and since Metis gets Garula and Garudyne, you don't need Yukari much anymore. Ken's second Therugy, once you eventually get it, is amazing. Koro also saw a bit of a nerf since Power Howling, is second Therugy, isn't given to you at the start and his decent Slash skills that scaled based on moon phase are gone. Ken at least gets Myriad Arrows later down the road if you don't want/need to use magic. Like base Reload, with the right setups, you can very easily turn the lategame into "phys nuke simulator" with Seigfried and I eventually added Masakado to the mix. The equipment with random benefits behind Monad Doors was also a nice addition to make the phys nuking even better, since I got Auto-Charge accessories for Metis and Junpei, who turned into wrecking balls of death against anything that didn't block or repel phys. As someone who doesn't hate Reload's combat, I will admit, the overload of fighting did slowly start to ware me down a bit in terms of motivation to finish. I only died once in my whole playthrough because Junpei crit me with his Therugy, and otherwise had little trouble pushing through encounters. While the story is worth it for closure of Persona 3's story, it really depends on the person deciding to push their way through this one when the amount of story content is so light until the end. Even so, in a way, I am glad I was finally able to experience The Answer in some form. I know the purists suddenly love The Answer because of their hatred for Reload as whole and therefore hate Episode Aigis, but those people treat Nocturne like a 11/10 game and act like anything else is the worst game ever made. Anyway, hopefully this is the last time I talk about the purists. (Also I rounded up my final playtime to about 29 hours since Erebus + cutscenes probably took 30+ minutes).

Persona is a franchise I cherish the most. The series is the reason I fell back into video games. I may be biased when I say that I LOVE this DLC. However, I can’t forgive ATLUS for locking it behind a paywall when it was added for free in P3 Fes. Other than that, here are my overall thoughts. Gameplay Pros - Let’s start with the obvious: turn-based combat has been ATLUS’s specialty and Persona’s go-to, and… well… it’s just as satisfying as it can be, finding the weakness, shifting to your team members before hitting them with an ‘All-out attack’ never gets old. - The fusion of personas is highly encouraged in this game, and it is fun to try to collect as many personas as possible and unlock new and more powerful personas. Cons - One of Persona 3 Reload’s downsides is its exploration; unfortunately, the DLC inherits it, too. The Abyss of Time is much more of a slog to get through, considering it’s a relatively short epilogue. The exploration was one of its biggest criticisms in the original, too; it’s a shame that we still face this problem today. Story and Characters - The story takes place at least 2 weeks after the main story. You take control of Aigis, one of the pinnacle characters in the game, and you experience the aftermath of Makoto’s (protagonist) death, which Aigis is heavily affected by. Aigis and her fellow SEES members are trapped in their dorms, experiencing a time loop. You also meet Metis, an essential figure in the Abyss of Time (I will refer to it as AOT for simplicity's sake). Aigis’s job is to navigate the AOT, as she has inherited the ability to summon multiple personas. - Let me tell you, the story does not disappoint. It is a mostly faithful recreation of the original ‘Answer’ story, and I’m glad I got to play through this DLC. There were slight rewrites of certain scenes where the tone is retained but was delivered differently; for example, Yukari in the original scene tried to snatch the key off of Aigis, but here, she simply dropped to her knees while asking Aigis if: “That’s it? You’re not going back? (to the past)” (not an exact quote) which was weird. Still, I let it slide since I thought the actor who played Yukari did a fantastic job emphasising her emotions. The SEES members are just as loveable as they were when we first met them in the original story. The DLC did an excellent job portraying the member’s grief while continuing Persona 3’s dark theme of ‘death’. The actors are also worth praising; they did a fantastic job portraying their respective characters. Visuals and Music - The anime cutscenes are what ATLUS has been improving on with each subsequent release (with Persona and, most recently, Metaphor) and Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis was no exception. - The overall visuals and presentation are still so stylish. Everything was perfect, from its shift to the anime cutscenes, its animation for our moves, and the confidence of our SEES members as they performed their All-out attack. - The music is, expected of Persona, stellar. The new battle themes are excellent, and the faith renditions of ‘Brand New Days’ and ‘Heartful Cry’ *chefs kiss* Overall - Persona 3 is an important piece of media that ATLUS has produced. It redefined the Persona formula and introduced new mechanics that have made Persona what it is today. To finally experience all of Persona 3’s story in its remake and the inclusion of ‘The Answer’ epilogue is a blessing; getting to know our characters and seeing them discover themselves was a treat, and it felt like we’d known them for years. I am grateful to involve myself in a world I’m glad was put with so much love and care as Persona. - Despite the uninspiring exploration and its worthless Expansion Pass (a DLC locked behind a pass with only extra costumes and music before ‘The Answer’, the DLC should’ve been separate from the pass, but… *sighs*), Episode Aigis has provided me 18 hours of more Persona 3 experience. 18 hours I don’t regret spending. I give Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis a 8/10

The story captures the experience of having to deal with a loss of an influential ally. Everyone hurts and in different ways, as an example someone stops hanging out as much with the group. Impressed with this version, as it lived up to the FES experience and certain features helped. Play Persona 3 Reload and then this please? P.S My favourite Persona game!

The DLC is a grind. Long repetitive dungeons with little outside interactions other than occasional teammate interactions most of which are not voice acted. You get maybe like 10-15min worth of story for every hour of dungeon crawl. The Joker optional boss fight was another gimmick same as Elizabeth but somehow more scripted. Save yourself the hassle and just look up the guide for this. Good luck grinding for gems the old fashioned way because there's NO GEM SHOP. Overall, good dlc with a meaningful message that just fell short due to tedious dungeons, no variety, and a $40 price tag that's just too much in my opinion.
