Final fantasy V (5) deserves a lot of love and more people to play it! Replaying FF5 and it's still as good as I remember. The Pixel Remaster adds some quality of life features... Like Auto battle, no Encounters and wide screen. FF5 looks weird at first on a wide screen, but it grew on me. This game is proof that even in this new generation of gaming, that pixel art in games still works and makes me look forward to the rest of the Pixel Remaster and other Pixel games coming soon. FF5 has a job based system which follows the way the system worked in FF3, so after each crystal you gain new classes with unique abilities, stats and traits. Each job has a certain number of levels before you master that job role, for example Blue Mage max level is 4 and Summoner is level 6, so how do you gain levels? By acquiring abp points in battle. Each job level gives a new skill you can equip to the empty job slot, but maxing jobs gives the freelancer (Default Class) or Mime inherited stats/passives from the mastered class. Meaning that late game you might be using Mime or Freelancer for a more optimised set up. The game keeps the jobs balanced as you get a few good jobs to start off, but nothing too overpowered because white/black mages only have access to low level spells until Karnak. You can grind the jobs to max, but it'll be slow process until world 2.... Did I mention multiple worlds? I had to explain this before we get into the story... The story begins with our four characters coming together to investigate the four crystals that control the elements around the world, as the wind has stopped, the rivers have stopped flowing etc. So we group up to investigate, which leads Lenna, Galuf, Faris and Butz (Bartz) to become the Warrior of Lights. Little do our heroes know that something dangerous will happen once the four crystals break. The game gives us memorable soundtracks like the theme for Butz home town, the underwater theme and so much more. I feel the story works really well and keeping the party and playable characters to a maximum of 4(?) means less pressure to figure out who you want to use compared to FF 4 roster. Each character has memories that we learn during our adventure, a few is optional. It really gives more depth and attachment to these characters, as one memory I love is Butz (Bartz) returning home to visit his deceased parents graves and he shares it with Faris. Interactions between certain characters are always good, as it makes you feel like the team gets even closer after each major battle. This game will play with your heart, make you laugh and vibe with the music it offers... If you read this review, then please give Final Fantasy V (5) a go.

My favourite pixel Final Fantasy. The job system is so much fun to play around with, incredibly versatile. The characters are endearing and while it's far more lighthearted than most Final Fantasies it still has its darker moments. Also the only pixel FF that made me cry at any point.

Final Fantasy V's journey was a lot longer than I expected. That being said, it was one of my favorite FF games from the Pixel Remasters and honestly in my top 5 of the entire series. Highly recommend!

If you know me, you know I love FF. This is the fifth one. Good story, good JRPG. That's about it.

Not sure if I enjoyed this because of the awful experience of Final Fantasy IV, but it did make me cry at the end which always puts a game in my good graces. Get ready for some goofy characters and the multiverse.

Smoother gameplay, loses something with the choice of changing the atb system, gains something with the amazing change to the soundtrack

Probably the most high fantasy esque of the early FF games, love the job system and the goofiness of the story and characters. Solid game would recommend any FF lover play it.

"This game is a solid experience. The story is hilarious, with several characters really shining through (Gilgamesh, Exdeath). The music in the game went above and beyond and really surprised me in a good way. The job system was basic, but very fun. The sub-job system was a neat improvement to the FF3 job system. Having said that, the story wasn't very good as a whole. It was a pretty basic storyline and rather boring. The final cutscene as well was uninspired. The improvements to the job system were good ones, but it wasn't a complete reimagination or perfect by any means. The difficulty curve was non-existent. The game was really easy up til the final dungeon and then slammed you in the face."
