Easily one of my top favorite games of all time.

This game got me hooked. I loved every part of it. Fishing and trying to find new kind of fish is really but, but I'll have to admit that I had more fun with the gestion of the sushi restaurant. I found myself playing it for hours and forgetting the time of day.
I 100% recommand

Great game. Absolute fire music soundtrack. Great story. Controls and fish hitboxes can feel a bit clunky at times, but otherwise great game!

Ich liebe Dave! Absolute Empfehlung!!!! Soundtrack, Cutscenes, Charaktere, Gameplay... absoluter Wahnsinn. Wieder ein Spiel, bei dem ich super traurig war, als es dann beendet war.

The saying "Jack of all trades and a master of none" comes to mind with this game.

Dave The Diver starts off with a nice calm atmosphere, and introduces the main premise.
Soon after, new mechanics are added, and it's an exciting moment: suit upgrades! A little while after that, another mechanic is introduced. Then another. And another. Take pictures! Do side quests! You unlocked the redacted place!
This carried on for hours, mechanics upon mechanics, until it was more than a little exhausting. A couple of missions required you to "go back to the boat and wait a couple days", which felt a lot like padding, when all I wanted to do was continue the missions.
Boss fights were interesting in their design, but typically frustrating in their execution: Dave's slow swimming combined with small arenas and very large enemies meant damage was almost inevitable, until a good run took place.
Dialogue also felt awkward, and padded. Dave kept on repeating statements as a question: "You can catch fish!" "...Fish?!" "Yes, Dave, fish!"
Story was pretty low maintenance and quite forgettable. Whilst there was a through-line, it felt like it took second place to the TONS OF THINGS you needed to do. DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN REDACTED?
Positives: the main, basic gameplay loop of the game -- go diving, catch fish, scavenge, and then make sushi -- was relaxing and rewarding in and of itself, to a point. The music suited it nicely, although sometimes it was little more than background music in its style. The game looked beautiful, I loved the 3D/2D mix, and the use of pixel art in the cutscenes was brilliant.
Overall though, I felt bombarded with "exciting new things", which on the surface seemed cool, but after 15-20 hours became tedious at best. It all just became too much; like eating a meal and having chicken, steak, bacon, eggs, fish, peas and beans at the same time. Surface-level quality, resulting in surface-level engagement from me.

Nota 4/5.

Dave the Diver – Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4/5)
Dave the Diver is an absolute gem that blends deep-sea diving, RPG elements, and restaurant management into a unique and surprisingly addictive experience. The pixel-art visuals are vibrant and full of charm, the characters are quirky and memorable, and the gameplay loop—dive by day, serve sushi by night—is both relaxing and rewarding.
The variety in underwater exploration is impressive, with tons of fish to catch, equipment to upgrade, and secrets to uncover. The restaurant side of the game is just as engaging, with menu planning, ingredient management, and customer satisfaction all playing a role. There’s always something to do, and the game balances its systems well enough to keep you coming back for “just one more dive.”
Where Dave the Diver stumbles a bit is in its handling of DLC. The decision to limit access to certain content through a region-locked or platform-exclusive model feels like a step backward, especially for a game that otherwise feels so inclusive and player-focused. While it doesn’t ruin the experience, it’s a disappointing choice that takes some shine off an otherwise stellar title.
Final Verdict:
Despite a questionable DLC strategy, Dave the Diver delivers a highly enjoyable and charming experience. If you're looking for something different and packed with personality, this one’s definitely worth the dive.
maybe someday i will finish
