Alone in the Dark 2 is the second installment of the series and a direct sequel to Alone in the Dark. Like its predecessor, the game uses hybrid 2D-3D graphics and will require you to solve a lot of puzzles while fighting zombie pirates along the way. Some enemies can be killed with the numerous weapons at your disposal while others need to be defeated via trickery. Apart from Edward Carnby the game also includes a short section where you play as the little Grace Saunders. Grace obviously cannot fight and thus the sections featuring her are all about fast reflexes and wits to evade and outsmart the enemies.

Ma che è successo Infogrames?? Alone in the Dark 2 è sconclusionato: un'accozzaglia di idee messe alla rinfusa dentro uno scenario che aveva sicuramente un potenziale molto più alto. Mettere insieme voodoo e pirati tornati dall'oltretomba poteva creare un'ottima base per una storia e un gameplay con i fiocchi, invece in questo seguito non si fa altro che prendere ciò che funzionava del primo capitolo e addirittura peggiorarlo: i controlli sono pressoché identici e quindi non migliorati come ci si aspetterebbe, i nemici sono da subito molto forti e difficili da sgominare finché non si ha manualità sufficiente per affrontarli, gli enigmi sono spesso e volentieri assurdi e ci portano spesso a dover provare e riprovare per poter uscirne vivi, la colonna sonora è totalmente fuori contesto, solo un paio di tracce si salvano, le altre sono banali, ripetitive e fastidiose. Insomma, Infogrames questa volta è riuscita a rovinare una propria creatura senza imparare dai propri errori, il primo capitolo, per quanto imperfetto, aveva molti elementi per essere considerato un capolavoro, qua invece ci troviamo quasi all'opposto, un vero peccato, anche perché Alone in the Dark è stato pioniere di un genere che ha preso piede dopo la sua uscita e ancora oggi è un genere molto apprezzato, il secondo capitolo vira fin troppo verso l'action adventure e lo fa anche nel peggiore dei modi. Un vero peccato, una grande occasione buttata al vento!
