Wild Arms 2 is not a direct sequel to the first Wild Arms, although it is set in the same fictional world Filgaia, which combines elements of Old West, steampunk, and fantasy. The turn-based combat system against randomly appearing enemies resembles that of the predecessor, featuring techniques unique to each character, as well as the Guardian system, which allows the characters to summon powerful creatures to assist them in battles. Three combatants can be used actively in battles; the player can also switch any of them with a reserve character, up to six altogether.

While clunky visuals for combat, the overall art style, sound track, and game play make this game great. However the use of tools can sometimes make items more complicated than need be.

Wild Arms 2 has all the classic elements of a good rpg - Various upgrades and custom options for characters, amazing story, unique combat and animations and one of the best soundtracks of its time. The story while good is a bit rough to read in the English version of the game due to a bad translation hence why I removed a star for this version. The Music is some of the best you are going to find in the era it was made. Only real gripes about the game are the amount of enemies that can just KO a character without notice and some of the end game puzzles requiring multiple hours to get pass without a guide. Game could be beat in about 45 hours or so, but the extras in this game and side bosses can take a lot of time not only to get to but to grind up to the right level to beat. Overall a great experience if you want a core RPG that stays true to the genre while offering a neat steam punk twist. If you need an amazing guide I recommend gamefaqs Shotgunnova (P. Summers) Wild Arms 2 Walkthrough - complete life saver if you are new to the series.
