This is the story of an unexpected encounter between Mario and the irreverent Rabbids. The Mushroom Kingdom has been torn apart by a mysterious vortex, transporting the Rabbids into the once-peaceful area, splintering this beloved land. To bring order back to the Kingdom, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi team up with Rabbids heroes in a journey through four different worlds.

I enjoyed this game when I first played it around release, but I think I love it even more now. For a game with Mario AND Rabbids, you wouldn't think it would do anything extravagant. But this game is the most imaginative thing they could've done with a premise like this. The tactical RPG style allows for multi-layered thinking when making ANY kind of move, and there is always something crazy happening on the screen. As long as the battles don't get boring for you, or you pace yourself playing it, it's a really fun time.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle really took me by surprise. It's absolutely not what I expected when I first heard of a potential Mario Rabbids crossover, prior to announcement, but everything in this game works startlingly well.
The Rabbids are surprisingly endearing, it's enjoyable to play as the Mario cast in a tactics game, and that tactics gameplay is fantastic. Ubisoft have made quite a challenging and complex game here, and it's absolutely one of the better games to release soon after the launch of the Switch.
The humour is a bit juvenile, but it's surprisingly funny at times. A lot of the dialogue that exhibits this is optional though, so you're largely free to skip this. Speaking of, the story in general is nothing to write home about. It's as simplistic as you'd expect for a Mario game, and it doesn't really follow through that cohesively. The final battle feels as though it comes out of nowhere, and the resolution doesn't feel all that satisfying. I'd not expect the kind of all over the place pacing that Mario Rabbids has from a Nintendo developed game. Some sections really feel like they drag, and some feel over too soon.
This doesn't really matter all that much though. You're playing Mario + Rabbids for the novelty of playing what's effectively Mario XCOM starring the Rabbids, and it executed that well. By Nintendo standards the game is somewhat lacking polish, but by Ubisoft standards it's exceptional. Definitely worth giving a shot. Though perhaps Sparks of Hope is a better shout at this point, as it seems to be much more accessible.
I love this game so much. A very unique crossover but works really well. Great tactic gameplay and a very funny story.

This game is way better than it has any right to be. It always looked like a fun and engaging experience but now that I've played it I can say it is pretty good. Combat is fun, satisfying, and engaging. The story is forgettable for the most part but certain scenarios stick out especially with the humor. The Donkey Kong Adventure DLC was just as good and even introduced some new mechanics and skills. The worlds though are pretty weak in design even though they're gorgeous. The level design boils down to "walk down obvious path for main scenario and everything else is extra". It works and is simple but also left me wishing there was more to it. Other than that it's a great game and absolutely worth having if you own a Switch.
